HISTORY

The village is situated around a softly sloping hill and its streets are typically late XIXth century, being wide and well proportioned. The houses are architecturalle very similar to those of the Joya district in Alhama.
The villages of Fornes and Játar were conceded the status of local autonomous entities in 1991. This effectively gave them a large degree of self-government. Together, the villages have a combined population of 2,122 inhabitants, distributed in the following manner: Arenas del Rey: 678, Fornes; 778, Játar: 543 and 123 Los Bermejales.

NATURAL HERITAGE

This territory has an abundante of water – river Játar, the ravine of Hornillo del Corral and that of los Grillos, river Resinera, which were formed by the confluence of the streams Venta and Cebollón.
River Cacin, which bears a course northwards from los Bermejales, is rich in trout and freshwater crabs. This kind of environment is perfect for practising many different kinds of environment is perfect for practising many different kinds of open air sports, such as horse-riding, mountain cycling, 4 by 4 adventuring as well as offering the possibility of numerous beautiful walks through pine forests.
Fornes offers the chance of hang-gliding and rabbit, hare, thrush, boar, deer or Spanish Ibex, hunting.

GASTRONOMY

“Borrachuelos” (Christmas pudding).
