La Roda de Andalucía
La Roda de Andalucía, with more than 4.000
inhabitants, prides itself of being the 'heart of Andalusia'. Since ancient
times was this town crossroads for various kingdoms and provinces as show
its previous name: 'Al-Roa', it means, the customs-house.
The economy of the town is based mainly on the agriculture, specially
the olive cultivation. From its canning factories the olives are distributed
to all the continents.
The most famous festivities are the Holy Week and the patron saint celebrations,
being the most important San Pedro 'feria'.
La Roda is characterised by the white cortijos surrounded by olive trees.
The residents say that the white walls seem like mirrors under the summer
midday sun in contrast to the green olive trees and the brown dry land.
The tourists who visit this village, situated near the highway A-92, will
